ALRA Engineers, P.C. is a full service SBE, DBE, and MBE engineering firm dedicated to providing consulting services in Construction Management, Construction Inspection, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to provide professional engineering and construction management services for multiple public sector projects. The Resident Engineer serves as the Client’s representative in the field, providing leadership to construction inspection staff while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract plans, specifications, and applicable regulations. This role coordinates with contractors, vendors, and other external parties on projects involving highways, bridges, streets, and structural work.

The successful candidate will manage construction activities, administer contracts, coordinate with clients and contractors, and ensure quality workmanship throughout all phases of construction.

Location

• Central and Southern New Jersey

Responsibilities

• Manage complex field engineering assignments, including the planning, execution, supervision, and coordination of technical project activities.
• Provide quality assurance oversight to ensure construction work is completed according to approved plans, contract requirements, and industry standards.
• Supervise construction engineering activities and provide technical guidance across assigned project areas, including coordination with survey personnel.
• Supervise Construction Inspectors and ensure inspections, testing, documentation, and reports are completed according to project requirements.
• Monitor and coordinate contractor activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements.
• Collaborate with the construction management team to identify and resolve potential hazards affecting the environment, project safety, or employee health.
• Ensure assigned personnel follow safe work practices in compliance with site specific safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and industry standards.
• Review and interpret discipline specific design drawings, specifications, and contract documents to verify current revisions and ensure proper technical execution of work.
• Resolve technical engineering issues within assigned disciplines and coordinate implementation of solutions.
• Develop or review construction schedules and monitor project progress to ensure timely completion.
• Provide schedule updates, progress reports, and project financial status reports to the Construction Manager or Client Representative.
• Monitor material procurement and deliveries to support construction schedules.|
• Verify that materials received comply with project specifications and quality standards.
• Organize and maintain project documentation and discipline specific records for project closeout.
• Prepare and maintain project reports, correspondence, change order documentation, and progress tracking records.|
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, project stakeholders, and management personnel.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to become familiar with contract requirements, site conditions, special provisions, applicable standards, and project specifications.
• Knowledge of agency and company policies, procedures, and Infrastructure Standard Construction Operating Procedures (SCOPs).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and various project management, documentation, and production software.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and extended hours when required.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Minimum of seven years of progressive construction management experience.
• New Jersey or New York Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Candidates with NICET Level IV certification in Highway Construction and equivalent construction management experience may be considered.
• OSHA 30 Hour or 10 Hour Construction Safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Permit Required Confined Space Entry training preferred.
• Certifications from the Society of Asphalt Technologists (SAT), Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and Certified Concrete Testing Technician (CCTC) are preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
• Ability to safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain, excavations, and temporary structures while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to climb ladders, navigate stairs, and access construction work areas as needed.
• Ability to perform field inspections requiring bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel to project sites throughout Central and Southern New Jersey.
• Ability to visually inspect construction work and read plans, specifications, and field documentation.

The Office Engineer position provides technical and project administration, contract document management, cost tracking, schedule monitoring, and coordination support between the Resident Engineer, inspection staff, contractors, and project stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have experience working on NJDOT, county, municipal, or other public infrastructure projects and possess strong knowledge of construction documentation, contract administration, and project controls.

Responsibilities

• Proactive self starter capable of setting a positive example for staff and supporting the management team through strong leadership, initiative, and effective communication.
• Support the Field Management Team with project oversight and coordination.
• Assist in managing change orders in accordance with client guidelines.
• Conduct site visits to monitor project progress and identify potential issues.
• Compile accurate daily work reports in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with client representatives to ensure project alignment and successful delivery.
• Maintain accurate document control in accordance with client standards.
• Coordinate and track project correspondence, including emails, letters, and other project related communications.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and internal teams to track project milestones.
• Prepare meeting minutes for technical, progress, and other project meetings.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field preferred.
• Two to five years of office engineering experience preferred.
• Five years of construction inspection experience on bridge or roadway projects preferred, but not required.
• Experience using project management software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction documentation systems.
• OSHA 30 Hour or OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety training is preferred. Training will be provided if needed.

We are seeking a motivated and detail oriented Construction Inspector to join our growing team. The successful candidate will provide construction inspection services on roadway, bridge, and municipal infrastructure projects throughout Central and Southern New Jersey. As a Construction Inspector, you will ensure projects are constructed in accordance with contract plans, specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements while maintaining quality, safety, and schedule expectations.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Prepare contract administration documentation, including daily reports, work narratives, special inspection reports, and daily time and material records.
• Prepare written documentation for unit price work and quantity tracking.
• Identify potential extra work issues and advise the Resident Engineer of potential impacts or concerns.
• Compile supporting documentation and prepare related sketches as required.
• Review plans for constructability and prepare technical comments or recommendations.
• Review contractor payment requests and provide comments and recommendations to the Resident Engineer as required.
• Maintain complete daily documentation of construction activities, including photographic records.
• Verify compliance with OSHA safety requirements and project safety standards.
• Attend construction meetings and provide project updates.

Qualifications

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented JR Construction Inspector to join our Middletown CT Construction Inspection Team.  This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in starting a career in civil engineering, construction inspection, and infrastructure projects.

The JR Construction Inspector will assist the Resident Engineer and Chief Inspector with field inspections, documentation and administrative support for roadway, utility, drainage, and other civil infrastructure projects throughout Connecticut.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with daily field inspections of construction activities under the supervision of senior or chief inspectors.
