ASHE New York Metro Event

ALRA was proud to attend the ASHE New York Metro event, where our team had the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions, exchange ideas, and connect with industry professionals.

The event featured a Panel Discussion with NYSDOT Leadership and a dynamic lineup of industry experts. It was a great opportunity to connect, learn, and engage driving progress and innovation.


ACEC NJ 55th Engineering Excellence Awards

As ALRA enters the New Jersey market, we are honored to partner with American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey. We recently attended the ACEC NJ 55th Engineering Excellence Awards which is a yearly celebration of innovation, impact, and the incredible work shaping New Jersey’s future.

Our firm is proud to stand alongside industry leaders pushing the boundaries of engineering.  Our very own John Schweppenheiser was recognized for managing and completing the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge and Utility Relocation Project on behalf of the Gateway Development Commission.  This transformative, and nationally recognized project, received the Grand Honor Award for the Large Project category.


ACEC Winter Conference

It was a great opportunity to connect with fellow industry professionals, gain valuable insights, and be part of essential discussions shaping the future of engineering in New York.

NYSATE Section 8 TPOY Dinner

ALRA gathered for our annual Holiday Party, and it was such a special way to close out the year. The night was filled with great food, heartfelt speeches, dancing, music, and a look back at the year that reminded us of everything we’ve accomplished together. It was a wonderful chance for the team to unwind, celebrate, and capture memories with plenty of photos.

We’re grateful for the memories we made, and the meaningful moments that close out the year.


Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

To celebrate Engineers Week, we asked the young girls of our team members to build a bridge using only household materials… and they delivered.

Cardboard creations, beautiful masterpieces, tape holding everything together. And some seriously impressive engineering skills with a little paper and clay mixed in.

As a company that works with bridges and roadways every day, it was pretty special to see the next generation giving it a try at home.

John has over 30 years of experience leading the design, management, and construction of diverse infrastructure projects across the tri-state region, from bridges and highways to utilities, commercial developments, and green infrastructure. With deep expertise, John has successfully delivered high-profile projects for NJDOT, New Jersey Turnpike Authority, Delaware River Port Authority, and NYC DEP, among others.

As Senior Vice President, John’s leadership and technical expertise will play a key role in advancing ALRA’s growth, including the expansion of our New Jersey operations, and our ongoing commitment to engineering excellence. Welcome aboard! 👏

ALRA Engineers, P.C. is proud to grow its leadership team, welcoming Marie Brandao as our Vice President. 🎉

Marie brings over 30 years of distinguished experience leading stormwater management and major infrastructure projects throughout New York City. Having served as Deputy Director and Director within the Infrastructure/Construction Division, Marie led high-profile projects while managing large REI consultant teams and in-house construction staff to deliver complex, city-shaping infrastructure improvements.

As Vice President, Marie’s strategic leadership and her expertise will be invaluable as we continue to grow. We’re proud to welcome her to the ALRA leadership team. Improvements, Reconstruction of Randall’s Island Ramps at the RFK Bridge and The Lower Westchester Bridge Bundle.


New York Water Environment Association’s 98th Annual Meeting

ALRA was pleased to attend the New York Water Environment Association’s 98th Annual Meeting, New York’s largest water quality technical conference & exhibition!

Our team participated in multiple sessions highlighting current and future water infrastructure efforts across New York City. Discussions covered innovative bluebelt and
cloudburst design strategies, nature-based climate adaptation in major parks, decentralized water reuse, and approaches to improving water quality.


2026 Annual CIC-NYSDOT Region 8 Safety Seminar

ALRA was proud to sponsor and attend the 2026 Annual CIC-NYSDOT Region 8 Safety Seminar hosted by the Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley and New York State Department of Transportation, Region 8. The seminar featured a full day of insightful sessions on topics including excavation, hazard analysis, overexertion risks, electrocution, safety planning and much more.

At ALRA, safety isn’t just a requirement, it’s part of who we are. Attending seminars like this aligns with our commitment to continuous learning, safety management, and ensuring that every team member returns home safe at the end of the day.

2025 AGC NYS Construction Industry Conference

ALRA had an incredible time at the 2025 AGC NYS Construction Industry Conference in Saratoga Springs!

A multi-day event bringing together construction professionals from across New York State for collaboration and industry insights, the conference offered valuable learning sessions, networking opportunities, and forward-looking conversations that continue to move our industry ahead.

We’re especially proud of our Resident/Project Engineer, Paul Taveras, P.E. for presenting and sharing insights on the NYS Thruway Authority’s Culvert Repair projects on I-87 at MP 36.68 and 52.87.


Kids Toy Drive Donation with Andrus House

This holiday season, our team came together to spread a little extra joy. Throughout our Holiday Party, employees generously brought toys for children, filling our collection with gifts. The toys were donated to Andrus House, and being there to witness the impact firsthand was truly touching.

We are proud to support Andrus House, a nonprofit dedicated to helping children and families promoting stability and resilience through care, education, and emotional support. Their work creates environments where children and families can discover a place of safety and healing.

Our team had a great afternoon attending the 2025 ASCE Long Island Branch Annual Transportation Luncheon. The event brought together transportation leaders, industry experts, and civil engineering professionals for a thoughtful discussion on the future of infrastructure across Long Island. From the networking to the speaker panel, it was an insightful experience from start to finish.

Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Membership

ALRA is proud to be a member of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). This association represents design and construction professionals who have embraced the design-build process which continues to evolve and expand. ALRA is pleased to be a part of this evolution, seeing the benefits in action through the projects that we’ve been involved in. Most notably, these include a unified project approach with a focus on team collaboration, as well as efficiency, timeliness and cost-effective benefits in construction projects.

ALRA has provided construction inspection services for several design-build projects including Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvements, Van Wyck JFK Access Improvements, Reconstruction of Randall’s Island Ramps at the RFK Bridge and The Lower Westchester Bridge Bundle.


NYSBA’s M/WBE & SDVOB Meet & Greet 2025

Once again ALRA Engineers’ Hispanic Heritage Month Ride and Drive was a success!

The team gathered to appreciate the beauty of the Hudson Valley while honoring the rich traditions and contributions of the Hispanic community. A scenic ride to Café con Leche in Wappingers Falls, NY – a local favorite known for its vibrant culture and authentic Latin flavors.

Perfect weather, amazing company and good food, we had it all! This annual event continues to reflect our commitment to inclusivity, connection, and cultural appreciation within and beyond the workplace.
